    Construction Pensions

    The Second Industrial Age brought the production of steel and electricity. Together they allowed immense growth in building technology and interstate commerce. Railroads were built, allowing people and goods to travel more quickly. Steel-framed high-rise buildings first appeared in Chicago, a city that experience tremendous business growth.

    With Otis' invention of the elevator, the dream of constructing high buildings became a reality. The speed of growth in the cities of American increased the need for space conservation. Sky scrapers offered a solution to that problem. The cost of electric power declined during this period, thereby allowing technology to developed faster.

    As electric power became prevalent in the buildings and homes, advancements in heating and cooling systems made life easier for people in all climates of the world.

    Technology in building science continues to evolve and grow. Today, there is a much greater emphasis on the environment and on the relation of buildings to the communities in which they are constructed. As times change and world population grows, one thing is absolutely certain: a career in construction is a very smart choice.
