Some 3,000 retired steelworkers from Akron-based Republic Technologies have been notified that their pensions will be cut, in some cases by as much as 75 percent. Their pension obligations were assumed by the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, whose analysis found that many of the retirees had been overpaid tens of thousands of dollars.
